This is where you will find the particulars of the events -- when, what time, meeting place, lunch arrangements, trails,
etc. We will try our best to give you all the information you may need. If we do not, please contact one of us
listed on the home page.
Remember: We ride in the rain. About the only thing that will
stop a ride is a lightning storm. You have been muddy before, haven't you?
July 24 - Saturday Watoga
State Park - Greenbrier River Trail
Meet at 11 AM at the Seebert trailhead
on the Greenbrier River Trail
Watoga is one of the most unique and beautiful parks in WV. Its history with
the CCC participants who worked to build on this park is enough reason to visit. Check out the museum and the unbelievable
work done by the CCC participants. Watoga has cabins and 2 campgrounds, it borders the Greenbrier River and the trail.
It is the largest park in the state system.
This ride has always turned out to be a ride on the Greenbrier
River Trail......although you can ride some of Watoga's trails if you desire. The GRT is a 1%-2% trail that runs
for about 78 miles along the Greenbrier River. Ride the distance you feel comfortable doing. Some will ride short
distances and some will ride many miles. Either way, this is an enjoyable ride for all skill levels. Join us to
visit Watoga and the Greenbrier River Trail, join us for the fun, and join us to meet others who like to do what you like
to do. Bring your own lunch, water, and snacks for the day.
Helmets are required
for our rides...don't forget yours!!
To get to the Seebert trailhead............follow Rt. 219. The entrance to Watoga is off Rt. 219 just north of Hillsboro. Look for the signs for Watoga State Park. When
you turn off Rt. 219, following the signs for Watoga, you will travel a bit over a mile to where the bridge crosses the Greenbrier
River at the entrance of Watoga. The Seebert trailhead is located at the bridge.
Beginners are welcome and
encouraged to attend. Hope to see you there.
Just a few reminders----
'Tis the season!! Got the bike ready?
Tires, spokes, & wheels OK? How about the bearings?
Bottom bracket snug?
You did not let the seat post stick, did you?
Cables and housing free and working as they should without sticking? Shifting mechanisms all working
or do they need adjusting?
THE CHAIN--all the links flexing? When did you lube it? Is the chain stretched? Have you
looked?
Now is a great time to visit the local bike guy and have the bike looked over front to back and tweaked
as needed. Start the season with as few problems as possible and the entire season will be better.
(of course, I have not covered it all with these questions--ask the bike guys to check it all)
